There are two official languages in Canada: English, and French. The predominant language in the Toronto area is English. Some locations, particularly government offices and the Post Office can provide services in French and English.

Canadians typically follow British rules for written English and US practices for spoken English. You'll find us using "our" where our US cousins use "or" and that sort of thing.

Where French is spoken, Canada has a unique dialect called "Québecois". Some native French-speakers feel that Canadian French is closer to "pure" French than that spoken in France. In any case, if you speak French you shouldn't have any trouble making yourself understood!
